Bishop Ecclesius of Ravenna

 From the early 6th century apse mosaic in the Basilica of San Vitale in Ravenna; beside the Angel is shown Bishop Ecclesius of Ravenna (+532). He is shown holding a small church with an Angel helping.

In terms of episcopal vestments the mosaic provides pictorial confirmation of the written records at the time. Bishop Ecclesius' vestments are also easily recognizable; he is wearing the old-style full conical chasuble with a simple pallium / omophor over it; if you look at bottom, where his chasuble ends, you can see the pontifical dalmatic showing, and then below that the two ends of the priestly stole are visible, and then the white alb.
